What mortal man, especially those
Epicureans of taste and distinction, can resist the Adonis molded dancers that
trounce upon gravity as part of the Martha Graham Dance Company? What sane man would want to?
What follows is
an excerpt from an article that ran in the January 17, 2003 issue of NEXT,
the Hippest Gay Guide To New York
In
the past, the company brought in such guest members as Baryshnikov and Nureyev and it is
exactly the member that Martha herself was so preoccupied with... "When you contract your body, you should feel as though their penis is rising up from between their legs. I don't have one, but I know what one feels like." She liked her male dancers with very little clothing, puffed
up or not. She loved the male figure and worked to highlight the sensual and
masculine qualities of her male dancers.
Not enough? What more titillation can the Martha
Dance Company provide? We might
well ask Madonna, the material mom, who took class with the company before
becoming the sex rocker for the world. She might tell us that the Graham men, and yes there are some
accomplished and pretty Yings to these studdly Yangs at hand, but Madonna might
just have to sing. It would be a
song about how those Graham men work upon your senses, so much so, that you're eyes
feel like a virgin...touched for the very first time.
Suffice it to
say that the Company, under the expert guidance of Christine Dakin and Terese
Capucilli, continues on with the Graham dance tradition, a tradition whose
verbal equivalent, not surprisingly, perfectly translates as gay man's
delight. And why not with such fabulously
glamorous men that half nakedly perform some of the most sophisticated and
tantalizing steps the artistic world has ever known...who can deny the
delectable drama?
We can offer the Gay Press of Los Angeles the opportunity to spotlight specific members of the company. Excellent photographs and phone interview possibilities are available.
